I'm no Bob Ross but........

Just some funny pictures below I thought I'd share. The Animal Planet crew was over this week to film a time-lapse piece of me painting something after being inspired by our Wolf adventure. They completely took over my house!!! haha. All this equipment for one little 2 ft x 4 ft painting lol.... priceless ;)

Check out the cover of the Spring issue of HERS magazine!

If you have a chance, check out the spring issue of HERS magazine, you can find it in the April 15th edition of The Calgary Herald!  Your girl here has her work featured in a spring fashion shoot along with fellow artist Ken Webb. Also you will find Herringer Kiss Gallery`s own Brita Thomas showing off her amazing style.

The model on the cover is posing infront of a recently sold piece called ``Agora``, which was a mixed media piece 3ft x 3ft in size.

The name ``Agora`` comes from the greek term for marketplace, or meeting place. I wanted to overwhelm the senses with colour and hustle and bustle. Perfect to be on a magazine for a city as hustle-y and bustle-y as Calgary.

Back from the woods!

Hi all!
Just checking in to let you know that I am back from my Animal Planet filming adventure with all of my fingers and toes! What an amazing experience.............I got to see a side of the rockie mountains I had never encountered before, and got to  make some new friends with the amazing film crew, and fellow artists along the way.
The show is meant to air in the fall, and so I will keep mum unti lthen about all of the details, but suffice to say we filmed for 16 hour days, I was physically exhausted by the time the week was over, I am up one pair of Sorells, and down about 45 hot-packs...............and I wouldn`t change a thing. I learned so much about conservation issues; how much of an impact we are having on our environment and how the animals are struggling to make it though the changes.
I am going to post some links below so you can learn more about some of the colleagues I met during filming. Get to know the important and profound work they do, you`ll be impressed and inspired.

THE DIRECTOR: EPPO EERKES Eppo has done some amazing work with documentary films, as well as television shows and more. His website can fill you in on some of his interesting projects, but what it can`t tell you is how in shape this guy is! haha. At one point we were hiking up a mountain and he was carrying something like 3 cameras and a boom mic all at the same time, and that`s when I thought to myself ``I really should have hit the gym before I signed up for this....``
Here is Eppo`s link, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!  http://www.pounce.tv/

THE EXPERT: PETER A. DETTLING Peter is a nature photographer and author. Peter is also the most patient and kind man I know. I had the pleasure of accompanying Peter for a week as he taught me all about wolves, and a particular pack he tracked and grew to know over six years. Peter is a wealth of information and has a richness of heart. I got to know wolves through his eyes, and the stories of his experiences. Peter has caught some of the most unimaginable naturally occuring interactions and moments that nature has ever displayed. His work and advocacy for conservation issues, especially concerning the wolf population in Western Cananda is nothing short of amazing. Here is Peter`s link. Check out his photography and read about his mission. Peter owns and opperates a gallery in Canmore Alberta, so if you are ever in the area be sure to stop in and visit : http://www.canadiannaturephotographer.com/peterdettling.html

Exhibition of new works @ Herringer Kiss Gallery 709 11th ave SW Calgary

Picture
Very exciting! Come and check out my introductory exhibit at Herringer Kiss Gallery. Though the gallery has been representing me over the past few months, this will be the first time that several of my new works will be featured at once for the public.

I will be showing alongside master print-maker Kenneth Webb, which is a real honour. Kenneth has been a long standing member of the Alberta College of Art and Design faculty, and his work speaks for itself - it is absolutely gorgeous and I could not be more thrilled to be included in such talented company.

The opening reception is from 2pm to 5 pm, Saturday March 3rd 2012. Hope to see you all there for this very specal occassion.

With love and inspiration,
Lauren.

Just a couple teasers leading up to the show... below are some newer works that will be exhibited March 3rd.

Exciting projects in the works...

Recently I was approached by a production company about being featured in a one-hour documentary/ reality-style TV show. The show will document my working life as a young emerging contemporary artist in Alberta, and how nature inspires my process.

I will be working alongside a guide as we hike deep into the beauiful rocky mountains to interact with and learn more about an incredible endangered species....... curious yet? Well you'll just have to wait and find out!

I will be posting more information and blogging about my experience as this incredible opportunity unfolds. Filming is tentatively set for the week of March 13th. Check in for more updates!
